I learnt this 罗汉功 from Mr Luo Yong Kun. This 罗汉功 comes from Mr Luo’s Preying Mantis lineage. He used this as the warm-up for his classes. Unfortunately, I was young and immature back then and didn’t ask too many details. It took me years before I started appreciating this exercise. I did ask enough to know a little more about the history of this exercise, and I have since found out more about it from a book which I came across entirely by accident. Since I didn’t learn the full details from the master himself, what I present here is therefore my interpretation of the exercise.
Note: There are 18 routines to this 罗汉功. Mr Luo taught the first two only. He told me that the first two were enough for warm-up and basic strengthening purposes. Doing the full 18 would take a lot of time, time which most modern-day practitioners do not have.
I have come across two old books and one more-modern book on this 罗汉功. If you have the fortune to come across them, feel free to learn and practise the full 18 Luohan Exercises.
